Engine Certification Process

The National Vintage Formula Ford Association (NVFFA) Certification Process for Formula Ford engines has a number of steps and necessary documents, linked below.

1. Download & revIew  Technical Bulletin TB011 - Overview of Engine Certification Process and participation parameters for non-conforming engines

2. Download & Review document entitled RMVR INSPECTION PROCESS.  This 8-step process, developed by Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing, (RMVR) involves visual inspection and measurement of critical dimensions.  In order to complete this you will also need to download a Cam Profile Graph and FF Cam Lobe Plotting file.

3. The RMVR INSPECTION PROCESS document provides a method of checking that compression is OK or not OK, but lacks details needed if there is question about legality.  The NVFFA COMPRESSION CHECK document reviews the steps and tools to accurately check combustion chamber volume, as well as the math to complete the calculation.  Don't like doing the math?  No problem.  Download the FF1600 COMPRESSION RATIO CALCULATOR.

4. Using all of the above information you will be able to complete the NVFFA Engine Certification Form.

5. Submit the completed document to FFCS (method TBD).
