Subject: DRAIN PLUG SAFETY WARNING

Summary:
Keeping the track GREEN is all of our responsibility by preventing session stoppages due to oil downs or mechanical failure. Oiling the track can lead to incidents involving you and/or fellow competitors.
VRG/FFCS rule 3.2.6.3 requires “The engine oil, transmission oil and differential oil drain plugs must be safety wired. It is recommended that all other drain plugs be safety wired also (radiator, etc.).”
This applies to FFCS cars having not only dry sump oil pans that may have a drain plug, but also the dry sump oil tank.
This item is on the VRG Tech Inspection Sheet and will continue to be confirmed at Tech.

Picture #3: Example of recommended safety wire securing of oil filters.

Some filters have a hex drilled for safety wire, while others can utilize a hose clamp secured around the filter. In either case, safety wire can be secured to an adjacent frame rail or other stationary object.
