Summary:

So, you have the car ready for the next race?  Make sure you pass technical inspection by reviewing the VRG “Technical Inspection Sheet” below.

This guide has a corresponding requirement and explanation in VRG’s Rules and Regulations found on the VRG website for each Tech item listed. Rules - Vintage Racer Group (vrgonline.org)

The guide is provided to assist you with quickly finding the VRG requirements for your car and safety gear to pass Tech.

FFCS has their own Tech Inspectors and most commonly noncompliant items found are:

  • All parts of the roll bar that may contact the driver's helmet should be padded with SFI 45.1 or FIA Type A high density roll bar padding, 1/2" thick minimum (3.2.1.4)

  • Inspect rubber drive donuts for cracks in the rubber

  • Check for excessive wheel bearing play

  • Check for excessive looseness in the steering rack and steering shaft

  • Special attention to fasteners, captive washers, and indications of fatigue in uprights (per Technical Bulleting TB: 003) during inspection is also critical.

  • Electric fuel pumps are allowed per 3.2.5.5 and it is recommended an inertia activated or low oil pressure switch to disconnect power to the pump in the event of an accident be installed.

  • Gearbox breather vents are recommended, per 3.2.6.1, to be vented to a catch can.

Also, prior to having your car inspected, print or obtain a copy of the Technical Inspection Sheet and fill in the required information as indicated on the sheet and inspect each item listed on the sheet.  Then sign and date the sheet.
